The occupational qualifications will be offered over a 2-year period. The knowledge, practical and workplace experience components of an occupational qualification can be structured in a manner to accommodate the requirements of both part-time (i.e. employed staff) and full-time learners.
Lectures, practicals, assignments, case studies, group discussions, site visits to water services and water resource management institutions as well as on-the-job guidance are the core teaching methods / approaches for the modules, promoting the assimilation of knowledge while acquiring critical practical skills and resulting in an improved understanding of the curriculum content. The smaller student numbers per qualification make the above teaching methods / approaches viable/possible and allows for a personalised learning experience.
An integrated approach to offering the 3 Components of Competency of a vocational qualification will be implemented, i.e. Selected modules of the knowledge and practical components of the qualification will be offered and internally assessed (through an IISA) during year 1. The workplace experience (i.e. the placement of the learner in a workplace) can be implemented simultaneously and/or may follow on the knowledge and practical modules. The process will be repeated during year 2 covering the rest of the modules for the components. As a result, the 3 Components of Competency of a vocational qualification can be structured in a manner to accommodate the requirements of both part-time and full-time learners.
Experienced & specialist lecturing staff with a strong background / footing in both the academic and private sectors will be contracted.
